BOLTON Hockey Club’s women’s seconds beat Urmston 2-1 away in their latest North West Women’s Four East outing.
Erin Turner dominated midfield from the start and sped past Urmston’s defence but was unable to find the back of the net.
Bolton kept up the attacks and eventually found the net with Emily Hawkrigg connecting on a rebound and hammering the ball home.
Urmston were straight back on the attack but did not manage to penetrate Bolton’s back line of Hannah Payne, Jo Tanner and Debbie Nicholson which held strong.
However a penalty corner was awarded to Urmston with a Bolton foot in the D. Bolton ran out fast, and an effortr was saved by Nina Jones but deflected by Urmston into the net.
Bolton moved the ball around well in the second half with the forwards dominating.
And they got a winner when Viv Lake moved her defender to allow the space in the D for Emma Begg, Debbie Green and Hawkrigg to keep up the attack, the latter smashing the ball home to seal victory.
The women’s thirds shared the spoils in a 4-4 thriller against Moss Park.
The start did not go to plan for the young Bolton team with the away side scoring against the run of play and then doubling their lead from a short corner.
In the second half, Bolton came out fighting with their first goal coming from captain Katie Bent who scored from a short corner with a well-placed drag flick.
Bolton continued to press to find their second but found themselves further behind from a breakaway goal.
This further motivated the thirds who pulled the game level with two fantastic goals from young forward Cleo Strange, who was assisted by Helen Stewart with fantastic play down the wings.
With the game now level and the opponents down to 10 players due to injury. The home team pushed to find a winning goal but again found themselves a goal behind due to confusion at the back.
With five minutes left the equaliser came from Nikki Ashurst with a powerful shot securing a well-deserved point.
