JOSH Sheehan’s international call-up to Wales can be good news for Wanderers, says Ian Evatt.
The midfielder was drafted in late to Robert Page’s squad for a friendly against Finland, followed by World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and Estonia.
He came on as a second-half substitute on Wednesday night in Helsinki and flew with a depleted group to Kazan looking to win his fourth cap.
Evatt is delighted to see Sheehan get recognition soon after moving to the UniBol from Newport County and hopes it will have a positive effect on Gethin Jones, MJ Williams, Lloyd Isgrove and Declan John’s chances in the future.
“It was great to see him out there and I think he was excellent as well, played exactly the same way as he does for us,” he said.
“He takes up really intelligent positions, he is reliable in possession and sees a pass, we’re delighted to have an international player in our ranks and hopefully a few other Welsh players in our ranks will get a look in soon.”
Asked if Sheehan could bring back some new tricks from international duty after training alongside the likes of Gareth Bale and Joe Allen, Evatt joked: “I think Gareth Bale has been asking about what it is like to train with Dapo and people like that.
“It is obviously good for us – it’s good for him, more importantly, because he deserves that call-up, in my opinion, he’s a talented player.”
