Elias Kachunga becomes Wanderers ninth signing of the summer. Here’s everything you need to know about the former Huddersfield Town man.

Boss Ian Evatt had enquired about Kachunga at the start of the summer but failed to agree terms.

The 29-year-old could come straight into the squad for tomorrow’s curtain-raiser against MK Dons at the UniBol.

Playing style

Kachunga is a clinical finisher. He has good positional awareness and gets in the right places to score goals.

Despite standing at 5ft 8ins, Kachunga is an accomplished header of the ball and could thrive off service from the likes of Lloyd Isgrove and Ali Crawford.

He can play centrally or on the flanks, which makes him a natural fit for the 4-2-3-1 system the Whites used last season.

Background

Kachunga joined Borussia Monchengladbach’s youth ranks in the summer of 2005 and went on to make two first-team appearances for the German side.

He had loan spells with Osnabruck, Hertha Berlin and Paderborn before joining the latter on a permanent deal.

Kachunga scored 15 times in 80 appearances for Paderborn before heading to Ingolstadt 04, where he featured just 10 times before moving to England.

The forward has also featured on the international stage. Despite representing Germany at youth level, he was capped by the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2017.

Time in England

Kachunga joined Huddersfield in the summer of 2016 for a seven-figure price tag and went on to make 128 appearances the Terriers, finding the net 17 times.

The forward became a popular figure at the John Smith’s Stadium - making 39 Premier League appearances - but after three years at Huddersfield he joined Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer.

Kachunga had a difficult time at Hillsbrough, scoring just once in 29 appearances before leaving the Owls at the end of his contract over the summer.

Now, he arrives at the UniBol for the Whites’ first season back in League One.
