RYAN Delaney has left Wanderers after failing to reach an agreement on a new deal.
The Irish defender featured 23 times for the Whites in League Two last season but lost his place in January to Alex Baptiste and struggled to get back into Ian Evatt’s starting 11.
Delaney was signed by former Bolton boss, Keith Hill, in January 2020 and made a handful of appearances in League One before the season was truncated by the pandemic.
He appeared to be on the verge of leaving the club last summer – but stayed to fight for his position and eventually held down a regular spot at the end of last year, scoring a vital winner at Cheltenham.
A controversial red card at Tranmere Rovers in January proved his undoing, however, and once he had lost his place in the side to Baptiste he did not feature again.
Wanderers offered him a deal to stay in League One but the recent arrival of George Johnston from Feyenoord has potentially pushed him down the pecking order further – and it is understood that Ian Evatt is also planning to sign at least one more defender this summer.
