FORMER Bolton Wanderers winger Brian Pilkington has passed away at the age of 86.

The one-cap England international was a key member of the Burnley side that won the First Division title to become champions of England in 1960.

A legend after a decade of service at Turf Moor, he then joined Wanderers in March 1961 and made 82 league appearances for the Whites, scoring 11 goals before joining Bury in 1964.

Pilkington died peacefully in a care home in Adlington on Friday following a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.

After his time with the Shakers, he would then go on to play for Barrow, Chorley and Leyland Motors, where the Clarets first spotted his talents.

Pilkington continued to live in Leyland and became a successful businessman and magistrate, having a stand named in his honour at Lancashire FA headquarters in the town in 2018.

“Our thoughts are with his widow Maureen and his family and friends during this sad time,” Wanderers said in a statement.
