WANDERERS hope to put a convincing case to Harry Brockbank to keep him at the University of Bolton Stadium.
With new owners on the way, it is understood the Whites have not given up on keeping the 20-year-old defender – who is currently being fought over by both Sunderland and Burnley.
Brockbank was left frustrated after the club went into administration, which put all professional contract talks on hold. And with his current deal up at the end of the month, there have been a steady stream of clubs looking to pick up a bargain.
Reports suggest Burnley boss Sean Dyche has met with Brockbank to tout a move to Turf Moor, and Sunderland – also in the midst of a takeover – have also voiced their interest.
The Black Cats are searching for a specialist right-back and have given assurances that Brockbank will get the first team football he craves.
Development coach, David Lee, believes there is a challenge for the versatile defender after breaking into the first team ranks at the end of last season.
“Players like Brocky would play for nothing to be at the football club, it’s within their blood,” he said.
“They want a chance. All they want is a chance.
“And once he got the opportunity he never looked back. He plays with the same enthusiasm, same commitment, he’s composed, and he plays with the same desire in first team football as he has for the last few seasons at Under-23s level.
“Thankfully Phil (Parkinson) have him the opportunity and he was ready.
“He doesn’t need to look back now. He can look towards next season and think ‘do you know what, I have got to stay in that first team and continue working, and if not, work a little bit harder, because there will be other young players trying to take his position.”
