WANDERERS finally got back to winning ways, with goals from Sammy Ameobi and Gary O'Neil securing a vital three points against Rotherham United.

But who came out as man of the match? Marc Iles gives his view...

The Bolton News:

WANDERERS (4-4-2)

BEN ALNWICK…6.5 Made one fine save low down from Vaulks – but if you are being ultra-picky, he also fluttered at a couple of late crosses.

JASON LOWE…7.5 Started at right-back, finished the game at left-back, and expended every ounce of energy in his body. Midfield balance also looked good. MOM.

DAVID WHEATER…7 One minor mistake from a high ball but otherwise very solid defending from the skipper, who does look comfortable in a familiar partnership.

MARK BEEVERS…7 Back alongside Wheater – and looked in good form. Didn’t give the trick Smith much of a look in and made some good contributions.

ANDY TAYLOR…6 Got forward a couple of times to put decent crosses into the box and was defensively sound, if not over-stretched. Hopefully hasn’t picked up an injury.

GARY O’NEIL…7.5 Came up with the goods in the second half and worked hard all afternoon. A short-term contract which has to bear some examination?

MARC WILSON…6 Worked hard out of possession and gave Williams a bit of license to get forward but wasn’t his usual economical self with the ball at feet.

JOE WILLIAMS…6 Flashed a few efforts at goal in the first half and got involved on his return to the side. Another who could have used the ball better – but dug in.

SAMMY AMEOBI…6 Burst into life midway through the second half and grabbed his goal. Got clattered on the stroke of half time and seemed to lose momentum in the second half.

CLAYTON DONALDSON…6 Supplied the cross for O’Neil’s goal and didn’t stop running for the cause. Does need a goal – but the partnership with Doidge warrants more faith.

CHRISTIAN DOIDGE…6 Didn’t get the chances he would have wanted but isn’t letting his head drop, and also shows a willingness to get involved defensively when needed.
