BEN Alnwick has revealed he will sign a new contract with Wanderers at the end of the season.
Positive talks have been held with the goalkeeper and his representatives in the last few weeks but a deal will not be completed until the Whites know exactly which division they will be playing in next season.
Alnwick has been one of Phil Parkinson’s most consistent customers this season, winning the battle with Mark Howard for the number one shirt.
And the 31-year-old is confident his future will soon be secured at the Macron.
“I have spoken to the club about a new contract and it’s something both sides want to do,” he told The Bolton News. “The club wants to give me a new deal and I want to sign. We’re looking to get it done. But at the moment it’s not really about me - I’m just playing my football and doing anything I can to keep this club in the league, then we’ll sort it.”
Wanderers skipper Darren Pratley spoke up for the dressing room last week, saying the 20 out-of-contract players - many of which are playing in the first team - should look to secure next season’s Championship spot before concentrating on their own lot.
Alnwick feels the feeling is echoed throughout the squad.
“It’s not easy, I’ve got a family like everyone else, and you do need that security,” he said. “But first and foremost we need to get safe. There are a lot of lads out of contract but we’re all pulling in the same direction.”
After defeat against Leeds United on Good Friday results did not go Wanderers’ way over the weekend.
Although Barnsley picked up just a point at home to Bristol City, wins for Reading, Birmingham City and Sunderland has made things tighter at the bottom of the table.
Wanderers host Birmingham at the Macron tomorrow night expecting their biggest home gate of the campaign thanks to a ticket initiative which has reduced prices to £15 for adults, £7 for concessions and just a pound for Under-18s (when bought with an adult’s ticket).
