DAISY Hill suffered their fifth straight defeat on Saturday, though they made visitors St Helen’s Town sweat at the end.
Managerless Daisy fought back from 3-0 down to 3-2 early in the second half, thanks to goals by Michael Gervin and Adam Owens.
But Daisy’s comeback was dashed by a fourth goal for the visitors midway through the second half.
Ellis Worrall struck a third goal for Daisy Hill to make it 4-3 but that came in the 90th minute, meaning there was not enough time for them to force an equaliser.
Following the resignation of Craig Thomas last month, Daisy continue to be led by caretaker managers, the two most senior players at New Sirs, Craig Haynes and Matty Knowles.
But club secretary Bob Naylor hopes they will be naming a permanent successor to Thomas at some stage this week.
“It was a decent performance overall on Saturday,” he said.
“The team were 3-0 down but kept going and did alright in the second half, we’re just conceding too many goals at the minute. The two lads, Craig and Matt, are handling things well in the meantime and they will carry on if necessary.
“We have had quite a few applicants to take over as manager, we have narrowed those down to a shortlist and hopefully we’ll have an announcement to make this week.”
Elsewhere in the Hallmark Security League First Division, Atherton LR also suffered defeat, going down 3-1 at Cammell Laird.
Daniel Pringle scored their second-half consolation just after an hour when they were three goals behind.
