WANDERERS’ on-song strikers continued to shine in the Premier League Cup, scoring two apiece in a five-star display at Leicester.

Mitch Kirkman-Ryan and Saff Newhouse now lead the league’s scoring charts on four goals after they booked safe passage into the next round for Chris Knights’ side.

A last-minute own goal completed the rout, in what was a return to form following the league defeat at Brighouse Town.

Wanderers are back in front of a home crowd this Sunday at 2pm, with Morecambe the visitors to the Kensite Stadium in Atherton.

The reserve team kicked-off their campaign with a new manager in Scott Strang and a young team against Newcastle, who had finished third in the league last season.

Chloe Williams was beaten early on but debutants Hope Fitton and Shellby Wolstencroft came close to levelling the scores before the break.

Newcastle capitalised on a defensive error to make it two early in the second half and Bolton’s day got worse as number one Williams was forced off injured.

Newcastle completed a 3-0 win from the penalty spot after Wolstencroft was forced to act as stand-in keeper.

The reserves face Brighouse in the League Cup this weekend.

The Under-21s made a good start with a 3-2 win at Burscough.

Katie Kelford’s triple save kept the home side at bay early on but after falling behind Wanderers produced a perfect riposte as Michaela Halsey and Maddie Blackburn put their side ahead.

Burscough levelled again but Catlin Clancy marked her debut by sweeping home a late corner to seal three points.

The BWFC Community team also picked up a 5-4 win at Reddish North End after promotion to Division One of the Greater Manchester County League.
