PHIL Parkinson plans to give Swiss target man Haris Tabakovic a chance to impress during Wanderers’ two-game tour of Scotland.
The 6ft 4ins Grasshoppers striker featured in Saturday’s 3-2 win at Chorley and will join the club as they travel to a training base near St Andrews today.
Parkinson sees Tabakovic as an alternative to Gary Madine in pre-season and will take a closer look at the 24-year-old against Arbroath on Tuesday night.
It is understood the former Switzerland Under-21 international is available on a free transfer and with attacking players thin on the ground, the Whites boss is open to the striker’s involvement.
“As things stand at the moment Haris is coming to Scotland with us,” he told The Bolton News. “We need numbers and we don’t want players playing too many minutes too soon. It puts people at risk of injury.
“We’ll look at him in training, continue to monitor people and continue to work on getting some new signings in as well.”
Tabakovic has a good scoring record for the Swiss Under-21s, with six in 15 appearances, and also netted 14 goals in 24 games for FC Wil in the Swiss second tier.
His scoring record has slowed down during stints at Young Boys and Grasshoppers in the top flight but the front man – who also qualifies to play for Bosnia – has done enough for Parkinson to warrant a second look.
Meanwhile, another member of the Wanderers squad is also eyeing up another chance to impress his manager.
Chris Taylor has returned a different prospect this summer after a poor first season at the Macron Stadium and – in Parkinson’s opinion – is working hard to be a part of his plans.
“Chris came in and his fitness levels are way ahead of where he was last year,” he said. “He has been in a lot of the summer and he knows he got himself off to a bad start in pre-season last year.
“This time he’s way ahead. He looks sharper in training, looked sharper against Chorley, and seems to me like a player with a point to prove.”
