WANDERERS’ youth team wrapped up their U18 Professional Development League campaign with a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Ipswich Town.
The young Whites went into the game hoping to end on a positive note after successive wins against Charlton and Colchester.
But despite a hard-working display, they could not find a breakthrough after conceding early in Suffolk.
A slow start saw the hosts take the lead from a corner but Nicky Spooner’s side began to settle into the game soon after.
They enjoyed good possession and created chances to equalise.
Alex Samizadeh headed over after good play from Ryan White and Jordan Grant and the striker was then denied after going clean through,
Jack Earing also headed onto the post just before half time as the Whites increased the pressure.
After the break, Wanderers continued to press for an equaliser – Matt Fearnley was unlucky from distance and Samizadeh fired wide from the rebound.
Luca Navarro and Laurence Smith both had chances as well but it was not to be for the under-18s as their season ended on a losing note.
Spooner told The Bolton News: “Pleasing today was the way the players reacted from a disappointing start and we were unlucky not to get a draw at least.”
