DAISY Hill achieved their biggest win in recent years and sent shockwaves through North West Counties League Division One with a hard fought 3-2 victory at league leaders Hanley Town.
In-form Daisy, who went into the match 12th in the table but having won three of their previous four games, led 3-1 at the break after Matt Davison added to an earlier double from Daniel Gregory.
And Hanley Town, who were 10 points clear at the top, failed to protect an unbeaten run that stretched back to October despite grabbing a goal back with 15 minutes to play.
Daisy manager Craig Thomas said: "I am delighted with the result. The team worked very hard against a good side who have lost only six matches this season.
"Our early goal shook them a bit and we battled like it was our cup final.
"Hopefully, we can build on this victory and finish the season in a good position."
Daisy got off to the best possible start when Gregory opened the scoring after just two minutes, converting a cross from Alex McPolin into the bottom left corner.
Hanley fought back with a goal in the 17th minute, but Gregory put the visitors back in front 10 minutes later when he turned, beat his man and shot past the keeper.
And Davison doubled Daisy's lead two minutes before the break when he latched on to a Curtis Cummins flick and found the net with a precise shot.
Hanley put the visitors under intense pressure after the break and finally pulled a goal back on 75 minutes but Thomas's men held on for a famous victory.
The result moved Daisy up to 10th in the table ahead of Saturday's match at home to mid-table rivals Northwich Manchester Villa.
Atherton LR remain second bottom despite a creditable goalless draw at Ashton Town. Their next match is at Barnton on Wednesday.
A first-half double from Jordan Cover put Atherton Collieries on their to a 4-0 victory at home to Runcorn Town before Mark Battersby rounded off the scoring with a brace of his own after the break.
The Colls bounced back from last week's 2-0 defeat at home to NWCL Premier Division leaders Runcorn Linnets, keeping the pressure on in second place, eight points behind with a game in hand.
They travel to AFC Blackpool tomorrow before taking on Barnton in the semi-finals of the Men United Cup on Saturday.
