A HAT-TRICK from teenage striker Alex Samizadeh helped Wanderers Under-18s pick up their first points of the new campaign with a 4-2 win at Colchester United on Saturday.
It was a first away trip in the U18 Professional Development League Two for David Lee's side and they left with all three points thanks to Samizadeh, who was born in Iran but now has British citizenship.
He was one of seven first-year scholars in the starting line-up for the young Whites against a strong Colchester side.
But the visitors proved more than a match physically and took the lead when Samizadeh ended a good move with a fine finish from 15 yards.
It gave the Whites a half-time lead and they doubled it soon after the restart when Samizadeh ran 30 yards to take on and beat the U's keeper one-on-one.
The youngster completed his hat-trick with a back post header and Alex Honeyball added a fourth.
It was a pleasing day for coach Lee as his new recruits settle into the side.
Lee said: "We played seven first years, one under-16 and three second years and Colchester were a strong, direct and physical team.
"The players matched their physical approach and we played some good attacking football.
"It was a well-earned win.
"The style of play from Colchester was a realistic test to what to expect, if the players are to play at first-team level.
"Overall, it was a pleasing performance and good learning curve for the players."
