MATT Mills hopes Wanderers can set off on the front foot at Nottingham Forest on Saturday and build a base for victory.
The Whites head to the City Ground for a reunion with former boss Dougie Freedman, looking to get one over the Scot and bounce back from a first home league defeat under Neil Lennon against Watford.
Mills, who will be hoping to return to action after missing the last three league outings, is confident they have the capability to do so.
But scoring the first goal would be a big help to setting them on the right path.
That is something the Whites have not managed in their last five Championship games, coming from behind to win only once - against Fulham - in a run that has brought just four points from 15 since the win at Sheffield Wednesday.
Mills wants that to change on Saturday but regardless remains confident they can still return to Lancashire with maximum points.
Mills told the club: "Whenever you go behind in a game it's not ideal, but it doesn't change your mindset.
"You go into any match knowing you're going to have to score at least one or even two goals to win.
"If you do fall behind, it doesn't change your approach to a game – you know what you have to do.
"As a team we have that expectation with every game that we go into we want to win."
A knee injury has ruled skipper Mills out since he played in an advanced role in the FA Cup replay defeat against Liverpool.
And he admits he is keen to get back out on the pitch with his team-mates instead of being a frustrated spectator.
He added: "It's hard when you're unable to actually help by being out on the pitch, but you just do what you can and support them in other ways."
