CRAIG Davies continued his incredible career U-turn at Wanderers yesterday by scooping the club’s player of the month award.
The battle-ram striker has scored twice in six starts this season, both from the penalty spot, and has been a rare highlight in what has been a dreadfully disappointing campaign to date.
After looking for much of the summer as if he was heading out of the club, the Wales international has seized on his chance to start every Championship game so far.
And his comeback was completed as the club revealed that fans had voted him the best player of a testing month yesterday morning.
Dougie Freedman has also been effusive with his praise for the man he signed for £300,000 from Barnsley in January 2013.
After spending the second half of last season on loan in League One at Preston North End, Freedman says the 28-year-old is now showing the right attitude on and off the pitch.
“He’s come back and addressed certain situations and shown a real hunger and desire,” the manager told The Bolton News.
“His attitude has changed. I think when he came the place was a little bit too big for him.
“I think the stadium, the expectations, were just a little bit too big.
“Sometimes it takes time.
“Craig has had to step away, look at how he’s conducting himself on and off the field and he’s done that.”
Freedman also feels that the characters within the squad are also helping Davies improve as a player this season.
“He’s in a better environment,” he said.
“He has better people around and helping him, those who are interested in his agenda and the team’s and not just their own.”
Chung-Yong Lee, who yesterday captained Korea to a 3-1 friendly win against Venezuela, was voted second by Wanderers fans, while Adam Bogdan was third.
