Iconic sports broadcaster Jeff Stelling is supposedly in talks with the BBC and Amazon Prime after leaving Sky Sports earlier this year.

Stelling had been on Sky Sports for around 30 years with a change in broadcaster marking a significant shift for the 68-year-old.

This comes after he left Sky Sports permanently before going on gardening leave to assess his options.

Stelling had been the primary presenter for Sky Sports' flagship football show Soccer Saturday with him previously hosting Sky's Champions League coverage.

When he announced his departure, he emotionally told viewers: "It is groundhog day, it is that time of the year, every year, where I announce I am leaving Sky Sports and Gillette Soccer Saturday. But this time it is true. I've been at Sky for more than 30 years and loved every moment of my time as part of the Soccer Saturday team.

"It is now the right time to move on and give Sky Sports viewers a break from my relentless rants, bad gags and over-the-top celebrations of Hartlepool United goals. It's been a lot of fun - for me at least!"

BBC and Amazon Prime look to sign Jeff Stelling, says reports

Just months after this announcement, Jeff Stelling's 'free agent' status has captured the attention of Sky rivals the BBC and Amazon Prime, according to reports from The Telegraph.

This comes as Amazon looks to bring a 'big name' to its Champions League coverage in 2024.

The BBC and American streaming giant are both said to be the frontrunners to sign Stelling up.

However, it is unlikely that he will make a decision soon as the presenter is on leave for several weeks to think things over.

Jeff Stelling was previously hailed by Sky's director of football Gary Hughes who said: "Jeff has been synonymous with Saturday afternoon football for decades, exciting and enthusing football fans everywhere.

"His unique broadcasting ability and passion for the game has made Soccer Saturday an unmissable fixture for fans and has won him a multitude of awards," adding that he would "be sorely missed."
