ITV's Coronation Street star Alex Bain who plays Simon Barlow in the hit soap has announced he is engaged to his girlfriend Mollie Lockwood. 

The pair have been together since later 2019 and in an interview with OK! the 20-year actor shared he popped the big question last October. 

But revealed the couple wanted to keep the news under wraps but shared that now is the "right time" to share the exciting news. 

Speaking to OK! the Corrie star said "I can't spend my life with anyone else" after admitting he was very nervous ahead of asking Mollie for her hand in marriage. 

He also told the magazine that he asked the question while the pair watched the sunset from the balcony in their room during a romantic night in Chester. 

Saying: "That’s when I just asked her. I thought, ‘If I don’t do it now, I’ll keep getting more and more nervous!’ I was pretty certain she’d say yes, but I was still bricking it." 

Molly, 19, said keeping the engagement a secret meant they could "enjoy that special time together, just the two of us, for a while."

The pair told their loved ones the good news on Christmas Day and are now planning to move in together in Chester.
