Households across the UK are now facing daily financial battles as new figures saw the living costs hit a 40-year high. 

It comes after experts warn that the country is preparing for "profoundly difficult months" as energy bills and food prices take a hike in prices. 

With the Office for National Statistics (ONS) noting the soaring cost of food and fuel creating 9.4% inflation. 

As motorists saw pump prices rise by 42% and food prices rise faster than ever before.

But now economists have said inflation could rise even more to 12% later this year.
