OWEN Coyle will decide in the next 24 hours whether to offer trialist Kalifa Cisse a deal at Wanderers .
The jury is out on the Mali international after playing a total of 90 minutes over the club’s first two pre-season friendlies.
Charlton Athletic are reported to be preparing an offer for the 28-year-old former Reading and Bristol City man, but Coyle insists he won’t be rushed into a decision on offering him a contract.
Cisse is likely to get a last chance to impress when the Whites take on Falkirk tomorrow night but while Wanderers are on the lookout for a defensive midfielder, Coyle is determined to take a considered approach before sitting down with the player himself.
“Kalifa has been a good player but the judgement will be, is he any better than the ones we have got?” he told The Bolton News .
“Coming into the Falkirk game I’ll talk with him and tell him exactly what my thoughts are, where he fits in or where he doesn’t.
“But right now I think we’ll take the opportunity of another couple of training sessions and the Falkirk game before we decide.”
Coyle has already hinted that he’s on the lookout for a new striker, and it seems increasingly likely that Wanderers could dive back into the loan market to offer competition to their only currently available front men Kevin Davies and Tom Eaves.
The Whites have played with a lone central striker in the previous two games, but have alternated between pushing wingers up in a 4-3-3 formation, or the 4-5-1 used in the second half last season.
Coyle reiterated that nothing should be read into the first two results, nor the fact Wanderers have struggled to convert so many goalscoring chances.
“We’ve changed the system in both games and that’s not to say it’s the one we’re going to play – it’s just the personnel we’ve got right now,” he said.
“Marvin is still to come in, David is still to come in, but the thing is about fitness up here and sometimes you lose sight of that. I’m not concerned, if that’s the word you’d want to use.
“All we need to be is ready for August 18 and that’s why we do it bit by bit. There are plenty more games to come.”
