A MAN has been sentenced to 12-and-a-half years in prison for shooting another man in the head and neck and leaving him with impaired speech.
Sufyan Sarwar, aged 24, of Bury New Road, Prestwich, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court after pleading guilty to attempted murder and possessing a firearm with intent.
The incident took place in Greater Cheetham Street in Salford during the early hours of April 4.
The court heard how Sarwar had arranged to meet his 34-year-old victim at a carpark behind Broughton Lodge to pay back a £450 debt.
But when the man arrived, Sarwar got out of a blue van and shot him in the neck and head.
His victim flagged down a taxi and went to hospital, where one of the bullets was removed.
He has since been discharged, but the other bullet remains in place and he has suffered long-term damage to his speech.
