Jussi Jaaskelainen saved two penalties in two late minutes to earn Wanderers a remarkable 1-0 victory at Blackburn.

Jaaskelainen, 31, has now chalked up six clean sheets in nine league matches and conceded only four goals.

Manager Sam Allardyce said: "Jussi's performances this year has been better than ever before but none more so than in this game.

"The goalkeeper has made a hero of himself by saving two penalties and got us three crucial points.

"If you are talking about top goalkeepers, Jussi is up there with Petr Cech and Edwin Van der Sar.

"He has had to pull all the stops out and made life very sweet for us."

Jaaskelainen first blocked Benni McCarthy's effort in the 87th minute then incredibly repeated that feat from Jason Roberts.

Roberts won both penalties after stepping off the bench after a challenge from Quinton Fortune then seeing his path blocked by Nicky Hunt and Gary Speed.

Wanderers skipper Kevin Nolan got his marching orders for dissent.

Ivan Campo's fourth goal of the season had earlier put Wanderers in the drivcing seat.
