BOLTON’S Stuart Stokes today received a fairytale call-up to the Great Britain Olympic team.
The 35-year-old 3,000m steeplechaser was the shock name in the 71-strong track and field squad announced at 2.30pm today.
Stokes, Britain’s former number one, was born and brought up in Bradshaw and now lives in Horwich.
He quit the sport after being rejected for the last Olympics, despite having run the qualifying time. But, in an amazing story of determination, he has staged a remarkable comeback which will see his career culminate in his wearing a GB vest in front of 80,000 spectators and a television audience of tens of millions at London 2012 next month.
