JUST as the broadcast of Series Six of the show was split into two sections – so has the release of the DVD’s.
Having discovered just who River Songs is / was / will be, The Doctor (Matt Smith), Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) arrive in the office of a certain dictator in the tantalisingly-titles episode Let’s Kill Hitler.
Along for the ride is Amy’s schoolfriend Mel, who accidentally gets shot – and guess what? She regenerates into River Song (Alex Kingston).
Mark Gatiss’ Night Terrors is one of those classic Who stories bringing back the terror that children feel, and many will return to behind the sofa.
In the Twostreams Facility on Apalapucia, Amy becomes separated from her ‘two boys’ and has to wait for them to rescue her.
They finally catch up with her – after 36 years in The Girl Who Waited. An agonising decision has to be made by Rory in order to stop time tearing itself apart.
The God Complex stars David Walliams in a story where The Doctor and his friends are trapped in what looks like a hotel with shifting rooms – but behind one of them you will face your fears.
Closing Time revisits last years’ story The Lodger, and a return by James Corden as Craig.
Although it’s full of drama and excitement, it’s really just a light-hearted episode before the culmination of the whole sixth series – and The Doctor’s meeting with destiny on the shores of Lake Silencio and his death.
Saving the best till last, The Wedding of River Song reunites The Doctor with River (who we last saw in wartime Berlin) and Amy and Rory, who he’d dropped off at the end of The God Complex.
In this story – the Silence return to see that River Song kills the Doctor, as witnessed by River herself and The Doctor’s friends.
Most of the questions raised by the series are answered in this touching, dramatic and well acted story.
As the episode comes to an end – we are left with the age old question that has been asked since 1963.
Doctor Who??
Excellent stories, superb writing and acting with a climax to die for – literally.
