IT just had to happen.
Four days after pouring scorn on Plymouth’s decision to sack Peter Reid and install club captain Carl Fletcher as caretaker manager, Argyle get their first win of the season.
Dean Saunders enjoyed a similar first-day win after stepping in at Doncaster after the dismissal Sean O’Driscoll who had done an excellent job guiding Rovers to the Championship but who was shown the door on Friday after they’d taken just one point from their first seven games.
Such results fly in the face of the theory that in management there is no substitute for experience. But perhaps Saunders hit the nail on the head when he admitted after the 1-0 home defeat of Crystal Palace that it was a lucky win.
Maybe it’s better to be a lucky manager than a good one. We’ll see.
Incidentally, well done those fans from Brighton and other clubs who turned up at Home Park on Saturday to show their solidarity with Plymouth fans who fear for the financial future of their club.
Fans united . . . are you listening Manchester and Leeds?
