STARRING Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant, this Special Edition release sees the Third Doctor pitted against the Daleks for the first time.
This four-part story opened the show’s ninth season in January 1972 and to start the series with a bang (and a Radio Times cover) the original story by Louis Marks was re-jigged to bring back the Daleks for the first time since Evil of the Daleks five years previously.
In the present, the peace of the world hangs in the balance and diplomat Sir Reginald Styles is trying to put together a peace conference.
Guerillas from the 22nd century think that Styles is the cause of their terrifying future and come back to our time to assassinate him.
Meanwhile, Jo and eventually the Doctor find themselves in the future – a future run by the Daleks and policed by the Ogrons.
The Doctor must find out whether Styles is actually the catalyst of mankind’s downfall, and put it right before the Daleks invade.
This excellent two-disc set comes complete with the story as originally broadcast, and as a special edition with brand new effects and newly shot footage.
Also, a plethora of features including the obligatory ‘making of’ documentary; which includes interviews with Katy Manning, producer Barry Letts and the Brig himself Nicholas Courtney. (Letts and Courtney have both sadly passed away since).
For UNIT fans (and this is a UNIT story), there are a brace of featurettes on the organisation.
Release Date: September 12th 2011.
