OFFICE buildings face an uncertain future.
Not that long ago, developers would take the plunge and invest in a new block confident that there would always be an occupier to make the venture worthwhile.
Some modern companies, unfortunately for these risk-takers, seem more interested in cutting staff, exporting jobs to India and encouraging workers to work from home.
They shy away from buildings with expensive overheads, particularly those in congested town centres.
This makes me wonder who would be interested in buying the Wellsprings offices — next to the Octagon Theatre — from cash-strapped Bolton Council.
When council staff move out there is an expectation that it will fetch “a multimillion pound sum”.
I hope so. But if the economic situation does not improve there has to be a worry this building could stay empty for some time.
