ORGANISERS of the Ironman UK Triathlon have been happy to announce that they will be back here in Bolton for a fourth time on July 22 next year.
That is good news for the town — and for the growing number of local athletes who fancy their chances in a uniquely challenging sporting contest.
Competitors came from far and wide last week — the winner was Aaron Farlow from Australia — but local interest is growing.
There were 49 Bolton competitors for a gruelling event that involved a 2.4- mile swim, a 112-mile cycle ride and 26.3-mile run.
Looking down the list published in The Bolton News, I note that four of them were over 50 and many of the others were in their 40s.
It goes to show that not all Bolton folk are couch potatoes.
All those who took part can feel proud of their efforts and achievements.
They might even want to do it again next year.
