EFFORTS are being made nationally and locally to build up enthusiasm for the London Olympic Games in 12 months’ time.
Much of the building work appears to have been completed successfully and that should stop any repeat of the traditional “will it all be ready?” stories that journalists have written for previous Olympics.
Also, many of the events have sold out already in a somewhat controversial ticketing system.
Organisers involved in this extremely bold, expensive and complex venture have every reason to hope that the whingers and moaners disappear from view as the expectation mounts.
I can honestly say that I have yet to meet anybody locally who shows any enthusiasm for this amazing event. But we Brits tend to be slow starters in the race for sporting excellence.
That includes us, the supporters.
I have a feeling that national pride will break through eventually.
