Rescuers had to struggle through six feet high snowdrifts to reach survivors of an aircrash on Winter Hill on February 27, 1958 which killed 34 people.
The dead were among a party of motor traders from the Isle of Man on a visit to the Exide Battery factory at Clifton Junction. The plane crashed without warning in whiteout conditions near the ITV broadcasting mast on the top of Winter Hill.
