HORWICH RMI Harriers youngsters produced a string of personal bests and club records when they took on strong opposition from Preston Harriers and Blackpool and Fylde on the final weekend in the top flight of the National Young Athletes League.
Three club records were broken in the Under-15s Girls age group, with Laura Taylor setting a new mark in the long jump with a leap of 4.80 metres, Gabrielle Whittle running 27.2 secs in the 200m, and the 4 x 100m relay team of Taylor, Whittle, Sophie Williams and Grace Shelmerdine setting a new club mark of 53.00.
In the same age group, there were wins for Natassia Dacre in the javelin, while Martha Gill equalled her best in the high jump with 1.40m.
Phoebe Howe ran a personal best 2.26.20 in the 800m and there were other impressive performances from Sophie Williams, who ran 28.50 in the 200m, and Shelmerdine who leapt 4.43m in the long jump. Rebecca Wignall gave valiant performances in the 1500m and shot putt.
In the u15 Boys, Noah Saunders impressed with a time of 26.80 in the 200m, Sam Bromley ran a great 400m in 57.40, and Joseph Howe ran 2.15.70 in the 800m.
In the u13s Girls category, Rebecca Mullaney ran 11.00 in the 75m and set a personal best 1.25m in the high jump.
Ellie Dacre ran well in the hurdles and clocked 12.00 in the 75m.
There were fine leaps in the long jump by Caitlin Whitehead (3.83m) and Emily Shelmerdine (3.67m). Hannah Stephenson ran the 800m in an impressive 2.59.60 and in the 150m race, good times were set by Katy Marsh (21.90) and Alex Woods (22.20).
Bethany Atkinson ran her personal best 4:12.50 in the 1200m.
The u13 girls also set a sesaon’s best time of 58.60 in the 4x100m relay.
In the u13 Boys there were fine sprints from both Matthew Smith and James Yearn, who each clocked 29.40 in the 200m, plus a personal best 3:07.30 from Jonah Saunders in the 800m. William Hart impressed in the long jump with a leap of 4.06m and also performed well in the high jump.
In the u17s Hannah Storey returned to fitness when she ran the 100m in 13.90, while for the men, Declan Snape ran 24.50 in the 200m with Jack Shaw running 25.80 in the 200m.
Sam Mercer ran another impressive 400m in 53.30 while Jacob Thornton had the entire team cheering him on as he ran a personal best 4:57.00 in the 1500m steeplechase.
