BOLTON Juniors proved too strong for Bury in their interleague clash.
The home team were dominant throughout in the second of the summer’s annual inter-league matches between the local towns’ representative teams.
Batting first, Bolton produced some excellent, steady batting to produce a magnificent 12 rounders.
They posted a total of 196 with tremendous scores of 44 from Cody Brooks, 31 from Lucy Mills and 22 from Helen Lewarne.
Bury had an uphill battle on their hands as they went in to bat.
Cody Brooks bowled steadily for Bolton, and, along with Jenny Fairclough and Nicola Mitchell Yorke, kept Bury’s score down to 128.
The top scorers for Bury were Olivia Massey (29), Amy Cowgill (25) and Jo Rector (20).
As Bolton were leading by 68, they put Bury in to bat and accurate, speedy fielding to first base kept the innings total down to just 76 – 21 points of which were scored by Amy Toaer – giving Bury a match total of 204.
Bolton returned to bat safe in the knowledge that they needed just a few runs to win the game.
Finally, after scoring 77 points, the Bolton captain, Jenna Allison, declared with a match total of 273.
The senior match takes place at Darcy Lever Cricket Club next week in the third of the series.
The quarter-finals of the Pike and Horwich Shield were scheduled for this week with the Blackburn, Dixon and Chadwick matches played over the next couple of weeks.
