Deane This year’s captain is Les Clough, with the lady captain Mrs Katie Wardle and junior captain Sanjay Patel. The captain’s charity for this season is the Guide Dogs for the Blind.
The opening day competition was a four ball better ball medal. The winners were K Matheson and S Hurst with a score of 55, and the runners-up were S Gaskell and B Chadwick with a score of 58 (CPO).
The winners of the opening weekend mixed greensome, after a card play-off, were J Grimwood and A Grimwood with a score of 64, and the runners-up were H Rees and J Parry.
The Deane Seniors Opening Day competition, a singles stableford, was won by P Fisher with 32 points. M Harkin came second with 37.
The Ladies Opening Day Greensome was won by B Thompson and P Jones with 35, runners-up were J Atkinson and B Eaton with 30.
The winners of Saturday’s four ball better ball stableford were R Ewell and G Hartley with 41. Runners-up on a card play-off were S Hurst and K Matheson.
Winners of Sunday’s three-man team stableford, with 70, were S Peel, A J Mitchell and M Ward. Runners-up with 69 were M Harkin, M Kitchen and C Lichter. The winning ladies team were B Spencer, B Wyatt and B Hindley.
Bolton Old Links THE weekend competition at Bolton Old Links was the first round of the Battersby Trophy, a six-round medal event played throughout the season with the top six qualifiers from each round going through to the final at the end of September.
Calum Welsby continued his fine form to record an impressive net 64 (84-20) to take first place, with Alan McKenzie in second spot (87-19) = 68.
The four remaining qualifiers all shot net 69s with the final qualifying positions decided by a card play-off.
The successful players were Simon Whittaker (73-4), Bob Anderson (81-12), Alan Dixon (74-5) and Dougy Price (83-14).
The Bolton Old Links junior team triumphed 5-2 over Blackburn in the Manchester District Golf Alliance competition last weekend.
The successful Old Links team consisted of junior captain James Dutton, Daniel McKeown, Sam Towers, Marcus Scholes, Michael Tunstall, Calan Tollady and James Platt.
The first round of the Walsh Cup is on Saturday.
