Horwich RMI’s James Kevan clocked an impressive time of 34 minutes 30 seconds to win Sunday’s third round of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix over a 10k multi-terrain course hosted by Radcliffe AC.
Kevan led home a bumper field of 234 to help Horwich’s men win the team prize.
Bolton, who had 23 entrants, finished second in the team event thanks to Tom Carson who ran 35.52 to finish fourth in the senior men’s event and first in the junior men’s category in which team-mates Daniel Johnson (41:42) and Frazer Doyle (42:57) finished second and fourth respectively Bolton’s Shay Walker (36:08) was sixth overall and first V40, with Ian Selby, who was 15th overall in 37.34, and Dave Shaw (32nd in 40.45) also scoring for the team.
Rochdale Harriers’ Carly Needham (38.23) won the women’s race in 38.23, while Bolton’s Caroline Scholes (45:53) was first FV35.
Burnden Roadrunners used the event as their club championship and had 37 runners, who were led home by John Knowles, who finished fifth overall and third in the senior men’s category in 36.05.
Burnden clinched an impressive treble in the MV50 category with Martyn Pollitt, Keith Thomas and Steve Nolan taking the top-three places and an equally impressive double in the FV50 category with Lesley Fisher and Anne Ferguson claiming first and second place.
Izzy Hughes won first FV45 while Kirsty Preece (FV40), Mel Walker (MV65), and Jacqui Beevers (FV60) all took second prizes in their categories. Paul Christie was third MV55 and Shirley Staveley claimed third FV45.
Burnden A finished fourth out of 24 in the men’s team event and their B team were seventh. Burnden’s strong ladies team finished second out of the 13 with their B team finishing fifth.
