JUSSI Jaaskelainen is hoping Wanderers can get off to a flyer for the third season running.

The Whites keeper believes results in the first 10 games can pave the way for another successful campaign, with every point banked reducing the impact of potentially damaging runs later in the season.

"If we can get 15 points from the first 10 matches, that will make sure we're in the top half of the table and we can go on from there with confidence," Jaaskelainen said on the eve of tomorrow's Premiership opener against Spurs.

"A good start, like the one we had last season, is vital because, even when we had the run of five defeats on the trot, the points we already had made sure we still stayed high in the table."

Without a 17-point haul in the first 10 games last season, Wanderers would have tumbled into the bottom half of the Premiership when they lost five in a row, starting with the 4-3 defeat at Middlesbrough at the end of March.

The previous season, they managed to survive an even more damaging run in November and December that produced just three points in 10 games by virtue of having banked 18 points in the first 10-match phase.

"That's what we have to be looking for again," added Jaaskelainen, who was on the losing side in midweek when Finland went down 2-1 against Northern Ireland on Wednesday night. "But this time, hopefully, we'll be more consistent throughout the season and not even have a bad run.

"And that will get us back into Europe again."
