FORREST badminton club is going from strength and strength after becoming the first club to be re-accredited with the Club Mark standard.

The Horwich outfit has been running for 46 years and has junior and adult coaching, as well as playing league matches.

Forrest field seven teams in the Bolton League, two in the Whitefield League and one in the Leigh League.

The club has also been involved in the Greater Manchester Junior League and has seen many young people join their seniors teams and play at county level.

Head coach Ray Schofield said: “It’s great to see kids get so much out of a sport and see them improve and develop their game.”

Club chairman David Travis added: “It’s great to get re-accredited and told we are still operating at the highest possible level.

“There is still much to do in the club however. The hope is that many of these young people continue to play into their adult years and some even take up coaching.”

Badminton in general in Bolton has seen a boost through the Premier League 4 Sport Programme and the No Strings Adult Social Badminton sessions at Horwich Leisure Centre and Harper Green Leisure Centre.
