FILM director Danny Boyle has been given a place in Who’s Who, the annual publication celebrating the achievements of public figures.
The Radcliffeborn director was included in the 163rd edition of the book, which was published yesterday. Alongside his film achievements, the entry names him as “artistic director, opening ceremony of London Olympic Games”
and lists his lesser-known television work, including directing two episodes of Inspector Morse, and the 2001 TV comedy drama, Vacuuming Completely Nude in Paradise.
It also mentions his early work as artistic director of the Royal Court Theatre, a post he held from 1982 to 1987.
The first edition of Who’s Who was published in 1849 and featured just 39 people.
In comparison, this year’s edition features 33,000 notable people, including more than 1,000 new entries.
Also added this year were X Factor supremo Simon Cowell, Olympic gold medal cyclist Bradley Wiggins and hairdresser Vidal Sassoon.
The honour tops off another busy year for Oscar-winner Boyle. The former Thornleigh Salesian College pupil was presented with the BFI Fellowship in October at the London Film Festival, where he also premiered his new film, 127 Hours, which will be released on January 7.
It is 15 years since Shallow Grave, Boyle’s debut feature film, was released. The most commercially successful film of 1995, it was swiftly followed by the film that made Boyle’s name, Trainspotting.
In 2008, he directed Slumdog Millionaire, his most successful film to date.
