RESIDENTS staying at home this summer are being urged to recycle their holiday brochures.
Council bosses think that many Britons will enjoy the heatwave here rather than go abroad, leading to an increase in unwanted catalogues.
Mr Mike Savage, borough operational services officer, said: "Glossy travel magazines and home shopping catalogues can go into the green paper recycling bag or taken to one of 40 mini-recycling sites or larger household waste recycling centres."
Other items that can be put in the green bag are newspapers, junk mail, office paper, leaflets and old directories.
For a replacement green bag, call (0161) 253 5353.
l The council will give £50 to two residents every week to encourage people to put out their green bags.
The first prize draw will be made soon, and the competition will last for a year.
