MOTORISTS are being urged to have safety screws fitted to their cars’ number plates to prevent them being stolen.
A clinic will take place at Morrisons in Swinton Hall Road, Swinton, on Sunday, October 17 between noon and 4pm.
Officers from the Salford North Neighbourhood Policing Team will be on hand to distribute specialist tamper proof screws free of charge that can be fitted to a vehicle to make the registration plate harder to remove.
The theft of number plates helps criminals to clone other cars, and victims might not be aware of what’s happened until speeding and parking tickets start arriving in the post.
Cloning is a term used to describe a vehicle that has been stolen and then had its identity changed by using false number plates.
