UNDERDOGS K2 peaked with an all-round performance to turn the tables favourites Trafford EHS to win the Dixon Shield at Darcy Lever Cricket Club.
Trafford, second in D Section, were fancied to score a comfortable win against the K2 girls, who finished second bottom in E Section.
But pre-match predictions proved way off the mark as the outsiders won by a 231-148 margin.
K2 batted first and scored steadily with all their batters, bar one, managing at least four bats. Top score of 21 came from L Waring top scored with 21 while L Sokes and G Titley both scored 18 in a first innings total of 121. The K2 bowlers carried on where the batters had left off, limiting Trafford to 94 - a total that would have been considerably lower but for the contribution of 27 from M Howur.
The second innings saw the K2 team maintain their dominance with N Maxfield topping the scores with 26, including two rounders, followed by B Lord on 22 in an innings total of 110 that took their match total to 231.
That left Trafford needing 137 to win but, in the face of some brilliant fielding – notably from the bowler-backstop-first base triangle that dismissed seven batters – they fell way short. Despite batting admirably, Trafford managed just 54 to end the match 83 runs short.
This week sees the many games being played for first and second spots with issues to be decided from A Section down to P Section.
Friday sees the Britax Chadwick Cup final at Heaton Cricket Club (6.45pm) between Little Lever XI and Rupert Ladies A.
Winning teams should note that additional trophies must be ordered from Deb Booth by mid September. Dance tickets are available from Angie Hill. All trophy winners must provide a non-alcoholic raffle prize for the presentation dance.
