JUSSI Jaaskelaine was delighted with Wanderers’ solid start to the new Premier League season.

But the goalkeeper has warned his team-mates they must take 15 points from the first 10 games if they are to avoid another battle against the drop.

The big Finn, pictured, believes poor starts have been at the root of Wanderers’ problems over the past three campaigns in which they have flirted with relegation.

Jaaskelainen, in his 13th season with the club, was pleased with the point against Fulham on the opening day.

But he says Bolton must now push on if thay are to achieve their goal of a top-10 finish under Owen Coyle.

“The main thing for us is to have a good start and, in the first 10 games, we need to get around 15 points because in the last three years that is what has been letting us down,” he said.

“If we make a good start, then we can look for a top-10 finish.”

Jaaskelainen is on course to pass 500 appearances for Wanderers this season – and he is desperate to keep a few more clean sheets on the way.

After having to wait 22 games for his first shut-out in the Premier League last term – and managing only five in total - he is eager to build on Saturday’s stalemate.

“There was only five last season and that wasn’t good enough,” said the 35-year-old shot-stopper.

“We made loads of individual mistakes and that’s why we didn’t have that many clean sheets. With the manager bringing a lot more confidence to players hopefully we can show that during the season and that will result in more clean sheets.”

And the keeper believes that, in Gary Cahill and Zat Knight, believes he has the right men in front of him to help him keep out opponents.

He said: “They did extremely well last season, especially Zat as Gaz missed part of it (with injury).

“They are two quality players, experienced and, hopefully we can keep them here, especially Gaz.

“This is a start and hopefully we can build on this.”
