BOLTON junior tennis player Sabrina Federici has vowed to bounce back following her defeat in the second round of the AEGON British Junior National Championships.
The 14-year-old lost in two extremely tight sets to Jazzi Plews of Yorkshire 6-3 6-4 in the 14 and under event.
Speaking after the match, which took place in Bournemouth, Sabrina who is an AEGON FutureStar said: “I don’t think the match was great but to be fair Jazzi played really well and it just came down to who had a better day.
“We had some really good rallies and I did try my best. All the top players are all a similar standard and I know that I compete with the best players in my age group.”
She added: “When I look back at this tournament I know I’ll be pleased with what I’ve been able to achieve. It’s the furthest I’ve ever got. Of course I would have like to have done better. I’m obviously disappointed to lose but I’ll take a lot from this tournament and make sure I come back better next year.”
The AEGON British Junior National Championships is the most prestigious national tournament for youngsters and has been running for over 100 years. It is the highest domestic accolade available to Britain’s most promising juniors.
More than 400 of the best boys and girls in the country are competing across qualifying and main draws at the tournament, which started on August 7 and runs through to the 22nd at the West Hants Club in Bournemouth and the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Roehampton.
