REPLICA guns were stolen by thieves who broke into an industrial unit in Westhoughton.

The unit was broken into sometime between 7am and 5pm on Thursday, July 15, and two boxes containing 18 replica military shotguns were taken.

The guns are capable of firing small plastic balls and cannot be converted into firearms.

Sgt Carl Hodson said: "The items stolen are essentially toys but are very realistic and look like shotguns.

"We don't know why these items were stolen or what the thieves intend to do with them, however I would urge parents and children to be mindful if approached with a view to buying them.

"Not only could you find yourself in trouble for possessing stolen goods, you may even end up facing more serious firearms charges.

"If anyone has any information about those responsible for the theft I would ask you call police."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5689, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
