THE BSF Tennis Championship was switched to indoor venues after heavy rain washed out play on the hard courts at Bolton School.
A splendid junior boys match saw Alec Foote beat Ben Coop 6-3, 6-3 at David Lloyd’s.
The ladies handicap clash between Lostock’s Cath Wadsworth and David Lloyd’s Liz Perry and Karen Hosker was a close fought affair.
The first set was tight all the way with Liz and Karen taking Kath’s serve to take the set 6-5 and then went on to take the second set more comfortably by 6-3.
Another close handicap match in the mens handicap was played to a finish when Andy Westmoreland and Ged Shepherd lost to Walmer’s Andrew Parton and Adam Goody. A tense match was concluded by the narrowest of margins, 6-4, 4-6, 6-5.
Enjoying the luxury of playing indoors David Lloyd’s Mick Knowles and Christine Costello made short work of overcoming a two-point per game handicap to beat Lostock’s Roy Platt and Marilyn Sweet 6-3, 6-1.
Finally two matches that finished too late to be reported lon Tuesday night. In the level mixed event Martin Robinson and Sally Howell lost in two sets to very impressive performers Nick Hinnighan and Louise Taylor.
On an adjacent Lostock court Leigh’s father and son combination of Andy and Tom Johnson swept away Holcombe’s Mark Hartley and Steve Darlington.
