ATHLETICS: The 26th Tony Bolton Sports Thirsty Three Multi-Terrain Race takes place on Sunday at Heapey, near Chorley, as part of the village fete.
The race was the only one in the North West in 1986 and had to be given a special road race permit by UK Athletics and was probably the first race to receive a multi-terrain permit by the organisation.
Starting at Black Lion Farm, Blackburn Road, Heapey the race takes in road, field and track.
The course record is held by Bolton’s Paul Freary and was set in 1993 at 15:32 for the race, which is just over three miles. Described as one of the friendly events, it begins at 3.15pm.
The “One Mile Gallop” for under-13s begins at 3.20pm and the course record is 4:38. It is held by Peter Dickenson, Chorley AC and was set in 1996.
Both races are organised by Heapey and Wheelton Village Hall Committee.
