BSF ROUNDERS: There was a feast of entertainment on offer at the latest Seniors Interleague match between Bolton and Bury at Darcy Lever CC.
In the end it was the Bury visitors who ran out narrow 144-121 winners thanks to their fine fielding display, although the hosts turned on the style with their batting.
Bolton batted first, scoring 91 with last batters Kerry Anderton and Louise Smethurst hitting 20 and 10 respectively.
When Bury went in, despite excellent bowling from Bolton, they scored 89, with Shireen Kempster and Kath Bond scoring 17 points each as couple of fielding errors from Bolton allowed Bury to score more points than they should have.
The second innings saw a different game entirely from both sides.
As first batters again, Bolton were dismissed by Bury for just 30 points, with the visitors bowling out six women on first balls.
Alison Saunders managed to save face, hitting two rounders, which took her to the top scorer slot on 12 points.
Bolton had an uphill battle to stand any chance of winning in front of their home crowd.
When Bury came back to bat, Bolton bowled four of their team were out first ball. The remaining batters were held at just eight points thanks to excellent bowling from sub Janet Baldwin, and some skilful backstopping from Kerry Anderton.
Bury scored just 55 points in total but it was enough to clinch victory.
Bolton player, Janet Baldwin, had her first outing in the Senior Interleague game and held her own brilliantly, as did players’ player Joanne Mullard.
The return Interleague match between Bury and Bolton’s Over-45s will take place at Elton Vale Sport’s Club tomorrow and not Friday as stated in the league handbook.
