STUART Holden has spoken of his delight at making the US World Cup squad.
The Wanderers midfielder was selected as part of Bob Bradley’s 23-man party heading for South Africa, and could now line-up against England on June 12 when the two countries kick-off their campaign in Rustenburg.
Holden’s chances of making the trip appeared to be slight back in March when he fractured his tibia playing for his country against Holland in Amsterdam.
But he recovered in time to play in Wanderers’ last game of the season against Birmingham, and also got 90 minutes in a friendly against the Czech Republic on Wednesday morning.
“I’ve dreamed about playing in a World Cup ever since I was a kid,” Holden wrote on his official web page.
“It is quite surreal to know now that I am on the plane to South Africa to represent my country. I can’t wait for June 12 when those dreams become a reality.”
