ASTLEY & Tyldesley’s youngsters turned in a great performance to convincingly beat Sheffield Rockets in a junior challenge match on Sunday.
A&T won the opening five heats to race into a 33-17 lead at Sheffield before the hosts rallied to take the next two.
But A&T kept up the pressure to win another six heats and run out 91-59 winners.
Stefan Whitelegg and Sacha Street both lost just once. Reece Pollitt, racing in his first match, turned in a terrific performance, losing just once to an opponent.
Five A&T riders competed in round one of the Hallamshire Go-Ride Grand Prix series afterwards. Max Evans and Adam Turnbull raced unbeaten to win the U8s and U10s Grand Prix Finals respectively.
Pollitt finished second in the U12s, as did Street in the U14s. Matthew Turnbull was third in the Open GP Final, after scoring five points in the qualifying heats.
Adam Phillips turned in a strong performance in the British U13s Individual Championships at Exeter on Saturday. A slip in his first race saw him finish fourth, and although he recovered well to record three wins and a second in his remaining four rides, the slip proved costly as he finished just outside the rostrum placings.
Astley & Tyldesley dominated the U10s and U13s categories in the third round of the Manchester League Grand Prix series at Stockport on Wednesday.
Turnbull, Evans, Joel Partington and Phillips were unbeaten. Stockport hit back to dominate the U16s and U19s to pip A&T by two points in the Division Two (junior) match.
The Division One result was never in doubt, with Stockport convincing winners.
