ATHLETICS: Horwich are flying high after an accomplished performance in their latest National Young Athletes League meeting in Blackburn.
The Harriers are one of the leaders in the division at the halfway stage of the league.
And the team gave a number of impressive performances, securing many victories in their match against Ribble Valley and Border Harriers.
The Under-13 girls did extremely well, with Martha Gill registering a 1.35 metres clearance in the high jump and a distance of 7.21 in the shot putt.
Emily Shelmerdine ran a time of 4 minutes 41.3 seconds in the 1200m, with her sister Grace coming home in 2:47 in the 800m and 3.71m in the long jump.
Phoebe Howe ran the 75m in a time of 12.5 and registered an impressive time of 4:08.6 in the 1200m. She also made a height of 1.10 in the high jump.
Sophie Williams performed well in the 150m (22.9), long jump (3.67) and shot (7.65).
The U13s boys were also in fantastic form, with Izaak Dickinson and James Stevenson displaying strong performances in the 800m, with times of 2:45.7 and 3:23.8 respectively.
Both boys also registered a height of 1.05 in the high jump.
James Lovell ran the 100m in 14.8, closely followed by Troy Cross with a time of 15.1. Troy also ran the 200m in 31.8.
Nathan Townsend and Jonathan Powis completed the 1500m in times of 5:07.3 and 5:36.3, with both registering similar distances in the shot, 4.85 and 4.71 respectively.
The U15 girls performed well in the discus with Natassia Dacre recording 12.53 and Katie Bridge making 11.24.
The U15 boys were not to be outdone, Luke Murphy throwing 12.77 in the javelin and putting in an impressive distance of 4.20 in the long jump.
Jack Shaw also did well in the long jump with a distance of 4.61.
Javelin was another strong point for the boys and Joe Roberts threw 21.64.
The U17 girls performed exceptionally, with Amy Phillpots running an excellent time of 2:25.6 in the 800m and 44.4 in the 300m. Hannah Storey performed well in the 100m with a time of 13.4, and Emma Holmes completed the 1500m in 7:26.8, along with registering a distance of 4.39 in the hammer throw and 4.53 in the shot.
The U17 boys also delivered, with Jordan Murphy making a time of 2:25.6s on the 800m along with a height of 1.35m on the high jump. But he finished behind Matthew Ault’s 1.50.
Shaun Palmer recorded a time of 13.4 in the 100m, along with 27.7 in the 200m.
Lewis Peacock jumped an impressive 4.84m in the long jump, as did Shaun with a distance of 4.68m.
Lewis Bretherton ran a time of 29.3 in the 200m and Zac Howe ran an impressive 4:28.5s in the 1500m.
He also registered a time of 1:02.1 in the 400m along with an excellent distance of 13.84 in the hammer throw.
Jacob Thornton performed well in the 1500m with a time of 4m 36.7 along with distances of 11.29 in the javelin and 8.87 in the triple jump.
The relay team did excellently, with the U17 Women running the 4x100m in 57.80.
