ROUNDERS: THERE were few surprises in the cup competitions as all of the Section A teams progressed into the next round of the Britax Chadwick Cup.
The only team to struggle were Darcy Lever ‘A’, who were pushed all the way by Westside before improved fielding saw the top tier team win by 73 runs.
Section B side Phase 2 Bedrooms lost out to C Section Apollo Ladies by 44 runs after scoring only 38 in the first innings, however, the difference in ‘bad balls’ was also a significant factor in the result.
Britax Queens, from Section C, were hoping to do well in the competition sponsored by their own sponsor and put up a good show against A Section Davies XI, but the difference in level proved too much as they lost 143-134.
Section C’s unbeaten leaders The New Inn A showed no fear against B Section opposition as they ousted Egerton CC by an innings.
After scoring 226 in their one innings, The New Inn, who were in dominant form, dismissed Egerton for 50 in the first innings and 73 in the second.
In the Dixon Shield, unbeaten Section E leaders Bolton Castle A suffered a shock to the system when they found themselves trailing A&S Schofield (Builders) 93-53 on the first innings.
Although they fought back in the second innings with 109, they lost by eleven.
Hough Fold Ladies and Daisy Hill both had a torrid time last season and are aiming for better this year in Sections E and D respectively. In a close game, Hough Fold edged both innings to win by 111-97.
Perhaps the surprise result was E Section Price’s A crashing to an innings defeat at the hands of F Section Laurel Ladies. Laurel scored 100 and restricted Price’s to 39 and 47, giving only three bad balls in the process.
Railway Ladies, following three league defeats in Section E, visited Tonge Moor Ladies who had one win in the higher section, but after leading the first innings by 29, they went on to win by 137.
Junior Interleague manager Julie Lindley has started preparation for the match against Bury at Bolton Cricket Club on Friday, June 4, and has arranged practice/selection sessions at Darcy Lever CC on Saturday (10.30am), Sunday, May 23 (11am) and Sunday, May 30 (11am).
